Steve and Patricia Billings are a couple who have been running North Park’s U31 Bar for over 11 years, and have lived in North Park for a decade. Their latest venture is The Original 40, which focuses on in-house brewed beer and an extensive food menu. The brewery is named after the 40 acres of land purchased in 1893 by James Monroe Hartley that is now North Park, and is located on University Avenue.
The Original 40 has a unique vintage design with a modern touch, created in collaboration with Tijuana-based firm Duhagon Design. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, making it a popular spot for locals.
The brewpub offers a mix of beer styles, both in-house brewed and in collaboration with local and out-of-town breweries, which are designed to pair perfectly with The Original 40’s elevated snacks, shareables, salads, and entrees. The 24 taps at the brewpub feature a range of beers that are carefully chosen to complement the cuisine.
